Housing Development Board

The housing and Development Board is the statutory board of the ministry of national Development responsible for the public housing in Singapore. It is generally credited with clearing up the squatters and slums of the 1960s and resettling residences into low cost government built housing. Later people were allowed to use central provided fund money for down payment. But they were not successful enough in convincing the people living in squatter to move into their flats. After the Bucket Ho Sweet Fire, HDB efficiency and estimates won the people over.

Most of the Singaporeans nearly 80-90% are living in HDB flats, There are many terms and conditions to buy a flat. To buyer a flat a person must be a Singaporean citizen, and be 21, years of age with a nucleus family. To purchase a 2-room flat, the buyer's gross monthly household income must not exceed S$2,000. To purchase a 3-room flat, the buyer's gross monthly household income must not exceed S$3,000. To purchase a 4-room or bigger flat, the buyer's gross monthly household income must not exceed S$8,000. If the buyer is buying a flat with his extended family, then his gross monthly household income must not be more than $12,000.

In public housing the ownership is limited to lease for 99-years.. There are several types of public and semi-public housing available, based on the classification of the number of rooms and size of the flat. Semi-public housing is governed under HUDC they have a large floor area but they are not similar to HDB. Size is usually denoted by the terms such as four room and five room or similar, and is based on the number of bedrooms in addition to the living room but newer five-room apartments come with only three bedrooms and a dining room. Some newer HDB developed flats in new towns include some condominium facilities.

HDB estates are selfsufficient with facilities such as supermarkets, clinics, shopping centers, schools, playgrounds and more. The convenience it promises with amenities in close proximity, coupled with the ease of transportation are some of the reasons why millions today have chosen HDB flats as their number one housing option. As such, knowing some useful information about Singapore HDB flat for sale will put you in a better position to choose the next property to purchase. Studio Apartments are the smallest of its kind and require the least maintenance. They are very much useful for the elder people which have built in equipments so that they can live comfortably.
