Bukit Panjang was formerly known as Zhenguha estate it has more than 500 ha of land space and nearly half of the space is being used for residential purpose. In Malay the word Bukit Panjang means range of long spread of hills and was used to describe the low hills stretching from Mandai to Bukit Timah. The town has population of more than 80,000 and has 22,000 four and five room HDB flats. There are two major modes of transport in Bukit Panjang and they are public buses of SMRT buses, all the SMRT buses have their origination in Bukit Panjang and some of these services are intra-city bus services. And the other service is Light Rail Transit system (LRT). LRT systems are the daily mode of transport of public in Bukit Panjang and Chao Chu Kang as there is no other better transport than bus services.
