Bukit Batok HDB Flats For Rent Singapore Housing and Development Board HDB

Search Bukit Batok HDB For Rent List

Bukit Batok is located in the western region of Singapore. In Malay, Bukit means 'hill' while Batok means 'cough'. A most reliable explanation has it that the two hills in that area looked like a green buttocks to the British, a word which suffered verbal mutilation among the Chinese to finally emerged as Batok.

The size of Bukit Batok is 11 km with an estimated 123,000 residents in 31,000 units. There are nine sub zones in Bukit Batok. They are Gombak, Hong Kah, Brickworks, Guilin, Hillview, Bukit Batok West, Bukit Batok Central, Bukit Batok East and Bukit Batok South. The town has different types of roads like Toh tuck road, upper bukit timah road and bukit batok ratok road to make people easy to access different areas of Singapore.

The Housing and Development Board is the statutory board of the ministry of national development responsible for the public house in Singapore. It is generally credited with clearing up the squatters and slums of the 1960s and resettling residences into low cost government built housing.

Most of the Singaporeans nearly 80-90% are living in HDB flats. There are many terms and conditions to buy a flat. To buy a flat a person must be a Singaporean citizen, and be 21, years of age with a nucleus family.

In public housing the ownership is limited to lease for 99-years. There are several types of public and semi-public housing available, based on the classification of the number of rooms and size of the flat. Semi-public housing is governed under HUDC they have a large floor area but they are not similar to HDB. Size is usually denoted by the terms such as four room and five room or similar, and is based on the number of bedrooms in addition to the living room but newer five-room apartments come with only three bedrooms and a dining room. Some newer HDB developed flats in new towns include some condominium facilities.

Generally HDB will not allow owners to rent the entire unit, but HDB do grant permissions to owners that apply to rent the entire unit such as entire family working oversea. Many owners wanting to rent the unit just lock a room to show to the HDB inspectorate that they are staying in that room, so they are not violating the rules.

It will be useful for the buyer to have an idea of the area of the flat, or at least a general idea, whether it's near your work place, near eating places, near a supermarket. All these will matter. Perhaps the scenery from the window makes a difference to you.

Monthly rental may range as low as 500 to over a thousand Singapore dollars a month. The buyer also have to decide if you wish the flat to be furnished (more expensive, obviously) or if you will furnish it yourself.

Also discuss with the landlord who will be paying for the utility bills (usually the tenant) and who will be paying the conservancy fees as well as charges for repair of defective stuff, eg. plumbing, lighting, etc. (usually the landlord). All these should be spelt out in the tenancy agreement.
